The bed in a tiny mini van takes quite a bit of planning. The less room you have to work with, the trickier this one becomes. I am happy I found a way that works perfectly for me.
Originally as I mentioned before I had planned to build out my whole interior, but in the end opted for pre-built kitchen cabinets. Besides it working well to optimize space it also solved my issue of building a sturdy bed.
This is a video you should check out because it will be easier to understand vs looking at the photos. Basically I ended up building a ledge around all my cabinets (you can see this in the photo below better) and setting the bottom row of cabinets in. This way the 2 pieces that pull out to make the bed has something to rest on. I looked at doing hinges, but having the pieces loose was my best solution.
The bed itself also has 3 cushions that tuck away when they aren't being used. I bought a twin foam bed mattress from a local camping store and just cut it up and made them into cushion so they fit perfectly in place. This one just took patience and measuring to make it all work, but is solid and surprisingly comfortable.
