I feel like I am putting a book end on the start of our first chapter in the van! What started with so much planning months ago, the excitement of finally leaving and taking off and now we’re getting ready to officially head south.
It seemed like a crazy way to start in the mountains, but really I was just starting in the closest place in case the outcome was that I didn’t like it. It was a very real possibility, or that Baron wasn’t into it either. I think with age comes more worry and you are slightly less naive and more prepared on what living and traveling in a van will actually be like. I feel I got exactly what I signed up for and I’m loving it.
Sure a few things didn’t go as planned, but hey, my water didn’t freeze! I know all the photos look as though it was a frozen tundra, but I actually was in the mountains at a very warm time going from +8 to about -7 at night, which trust me, it could have been a lot worse. The only time I ever had bad weather was when I was driving through high mountain passes, which I’d expect even in May which is still a few months from now. Totally normal and since this is basically the back yard I’ve lived next to for the past 33 years, I knew it was coming.
In such a short period of time traveling in the mountains I feel like I was flooded with so much inspiration and stories and am excited and open to what my coastal travels will bring. Traveling like this in the van is a completely different experience and one I’m getting very comfortable with. Now we’re hitting the road and traveling days away from these beautiful mountains, which have sort of been like a warm blanket in my travels so far. Ultimately if something went wrong I just had to drive 3 hours and I was home. This next chapter taking off and driving days away from home is the real adventure and to be honest I am just crossing my fingers for good weather. No matter how hard I try I have no control over that, just maybe a plan B that includes a credit card and a hotel.
Let's see what this next Chapter brings!
